The security update burden — BIOS updates, IPMI patches, microcode updates — is handled by the provider. The operator maintains the OS and the application. The silicon layer is someone else's operational responsibility.

This isn't a minor convenience. For operators whose value is in their code or their product, the hardware maintenance job disappears entirely.

The Hidden Opportunity Cost

Every hour spent troubleshooting a RAID controller, replacing a failing fan, or sourcing a legacy firmware download is time not spent on actual work.
